A trip back in time

During this summer time my little daughter and me (nearly 6 years old now) are making sightseeing trips. This year she “needed” to see how the Kings, Queens and Princesses used to live in castles in old days. Unfortunately England is too far away for one-day trip, but since Czech Republic was an independent part of the Habsburg Monarchy in past, there are plenty of castles in this little country to visit. I picked local Château Buchlovice, which is only 10km/6 miles from where we live.
Besides the tour through the castle, we also visited the flower exhibition in Castle’s Green/Glasshouse. Part of this beautiful garden is used as “Wild life rescue station” for birds of pray, and it’s open to public as a little zoo.
The Château and its surroundings are often used by movie people as a setting to make historical films and fairy tales.

All this nice feelings and sights gave me the inspiration to find and share with you this summer white dress pattern.

The Dress/Cardigan pattern

Size: 40 (M)  You can vary the size of your top by using different types of material and size of hook.
Chest: 50cm (20’’), length (dress): 114mm (45,5’’) (from the shoulder down), sleeve 40cm (16”)

You need: (for this size dress)
650g of 100% cotton (100g-280m) suitable for E/3,5 mm hook
Yarn Needle, marker

Back of the dress:
Ch 100+3, dc into 4th ch from the hook. Follow the chart back and forth for 77 rows (91cm – 36,4”).
In row 1 you should have 25 V’s.
For the sleeves finish 5 stitches (ch+dc) from each side – in row 78. Following row (79) finish 3 stitches from each side. You should be left with 21 V’s. Follow the chart for 17 more rows (114cm).
Mark the shoulder parts – 5 V’s from each side. 11V’s will be left for neck.

Front of the dress:
Ch 100+3, dc into 4th ch from the hook. Follow the chart back and forth for 77 rows (91cm – 36,4”).
In row 1 you should have 25 V’s.
For the sleeves finish 5 stitches (ch+dc) from each side – in row 78. Following row (79) finish 3 stitches from each side. You should be left with 21 V’s. Follow the chart for 6 more rows (row 85 – 100cm/40”).
In row 86 we start to form the neck – don’t crochet the middle 7 V’s. That will divide your work in two parts. You will finish these separately. In next 6 rows finish two motifs. You should be left with 5 motifs on each side. Continue for up to 96 rows (114cm).

Sleeve:
Ch 52+3, dc into 4th ch from the hook. Follow the chart back and forth for 6 rows (7cm – 2,8”). In row 1 you should have 13 V’s. You add 1 stitch in next 4 rows (10 rows = 15motifs). Next 6 rows keep repeating 15 motifs. Add 1 stitch in next 16 rows (32 rows = 23motifs). Next 2 rows keep repeating 23 motifs. All together 34 rows = 40cm/16”.

Assembling:
Sew together the shoulder pieces – 5V’s each side. Sew the sleeves together first; attach them to the dress afterwards. You can leave the split on one or both sides of the dress as indicated on the picture. Sc around the neck line, sleeves and the bottom with the split/splits.

And there it is. A very noticeable dress, rather simple and quick to do. Pattern can be used to make top/cardigan as well.

Have a nice week

Wedding shawl pattern

I was inspired by pattern from Ravelry
You will find free written pattern there. I made couple of changes and added the chart for 6-leaf flower and this is it. The modify version of the shawl.

Size: cca 200cm x 40cm (cca 80’’ x 16’’)
You can vary the size of your shawl by using different types of material and size of hooks.
You can also add the flowers or repeat some of the rows 4-19 as many times as you like – until you get the size of the shawl you require.
The pattern/chart is very versatile.

You need: (for this size shawl)
I used 150g of soft acrylic baby yarn suitable for a 2 - 2,5 mm hook, but I used a little larger crochet hook than suggested - E/3,5 mm, as it made the shawl fluffier.
125 little beads (optional)
Yarn Needle, marker

Terms/Abbreviations: I used US terminology
st     stitch
ch    chain
slst   slip stitch
sc     single crochet
dc    double crochet
tr     treble crochet
dtr   double treble crochet
st     stitch
beg   beginning

Start with flower motif. I made 6-leaf flower - the flower from original pattern was far too big for shawl I made. Don’t turn, just keep going in rounds. Follow the chart.

Ch 5, slst. to form the ring.
Round 1: ch7 ( count as dc + ch4 ) into the ring, dc – ch4, dc – ch4, dc – ch4, dc – ch4, dc – ch4, slst into the 3rd ch from first ch7. ( 6dc’s – 6 ch4 spaces )
Round 2: Slst. into next ch4 space, *ch5 – 7tr – ch4 – slst. into the same ch4 space, slst. into next ch4 space*, repeat from* to* ( 6 petals ). Fasten off and wave the ends.
I joined 31 flowers in a cca 2 meters long row at first. Join the flowers with sc’s as you go ( see the chart ).

Shawl
Work the shawl back and forth from now on. Turn at the end of each row.
Start where it is indicated with green arrow on the chart. Follow the number of ch stitches as shown. On the end of the rows help yourself with slst. to get where you need to be.
The number of the rows is shown on the chart in the circle on the right side.
I added the beads into every ch stitch in row 21.

And there it is, a very simple maybe even wedding shawl.

Easy slippers pattern

Size:  EU 38 / UK 5
You can vary the size of the slipper by using a different material or/and size of the hook.
I think it’s better to use yarn with some elastic in it.

You need:
I used cca 70 grams of cotton with elastic. (You may need a bit more or less - depending on size of your slippers)
Always use a little smaller hook than suggested – I used 2mm

Terms/Abbreviations: I used US terminology
ch       chain
slst      slip stitch
sc        single crochet
dc       double crochet
st        stitch

Note: You need to make 7 squares for one slipper. I used classic full granny squares. One square I made measure cca 7cm x 7cm ( 2,8” x 2,8”). You may vary the size of slipper by adding and removing the rounds of the square as well. The two “ sole” squares in the middle indicating the size of your slipper.

Slipper:
Start with a magic ring or ch4 - join with slst.
1st round: Ch 3 ( count as dc )– 2dc into the ring, ch3 - 3dc into the ring, ch3 - 3dc into the ring, ch3 - 3dc into the ring, ch3, slst. into 3rd ch from first ch 3, do not turn.
2nd round: Ch 3 ( count as dc ), dc in next 2 st, 2dc – ch3 – 2dc in ch3 from previous round (corner), dc in next 3 st, 2dc – ch3 – 2dc in ch3 from previous round (corner), dc in next 3 st, 2dc – ch3 – 2dc in ch3 from previous round (corner), dc in next 3 st, 2dc – ch3 – 2dc in ch3 from previous round (corner), slst. into 3rd ch from first ch 3, do not turn.
3rd round: follow schema from 2nd round
For my slipper I made 3 rounds.

Assembling: Put the squares together as you can see on the picture. You can sew or crochet them together to the shape. And don’t forget to add the bobble.

A Little trip to Prague

I had to take a little trip to Prague (capital of Czech Republic). It’s around 400 km away from where we live, right on the other side of this country. I would like to share with you a few photos I made. If you are interested in more information or photos of Prague, there is a link to information page: http://www.prague.eu/cs/objekty/mista

Charles bridge

 Old Town square

All the colors around gave me some inspiration, and I made this market bag.

Market bag in “Desiqual” design pattern

Size: Cca 38cm x 38cm (15” x 15”), handle cca 55cm (22”)
The size really depends on type of material and size of the hook you are using, which is up to you.
One square 12,5cm ( 5”)

You need:
I used 200 grams (7 oz – 500 meters – 546 yards) of Himalaya Everyday Anti-pilling 100% acrylic
For the assembling and the flower I used cca 25 grams of (120 meters) of Red Heart Margareta
Crochet hook E/3,5mm

Terms/Abbreviations: I used US terminology
ch       chain
slst      slip stitch
sc        single crochet
dc       double crochet
st        stitch

Purse body:

You need to make 16 squares. I used classic full granny squares, but feel free to use any kind of square with any design. One square I made measured cca 12,5cm ( 5”) but again it’s up to you how big or small you’ll make the square.
Start with a magic ring or ch4 - join with slst.
1st round: Ch 3 ( count as dc )– 2dc into the ring, ch2 - 3dc into the ring, ch2 - 3dc into the ring, ch2 - 3dc into the ring, ch2, slst. into 3rd ch from first ch 3, do not turn.
2nd round: Ch 3 ( count as dc ), dc in next 2 st, 2dc – ch2 – 2dc in ch2 from previous round (corner), dc in next 3 st, 2dc – ch2 – 2dc in ch2 from previous round (corner), dc in next 3 st, 2dc – ch2 – 2dc in ch2 from previous round (corner), dc in next 3 st, 2dc – ch2 – 2dc in ch2 from previous round (corner), slst. into 3rd ch from first ch 3, do not turn.
3rd – 4th – 5th – 6th – 7th rounds: follow schema from 2nd round
On my bag I made 7 rounds.

Assembling:
I crocheted the squares together, using contrasting color yarn, with sc from the right side of the bag. I have to admit I had a little trouble to imagine how my bag will look, so I safety pinned it together before assembling.

For assembling you can also use technique I found here.

Handle:

For the 55cm (22”) I crochet 121 ch, sc into second ch from the hook and sc in each following ch. I made 4 rows of sc’s – the handle is around 2,5cm wide. Fasten off. Make the second, then sew or crochet the handles to the bag,

Finishing:
Make one or two rows of sc’s around the handles and the top of the bag.

You can add a little flower I found here.

Pattern: crocodile flower

Ch 7,  slst. to the first ch to form a ring.
Rnd 1 : *Ch 10, slst. into the ring*, repeat from * to*, join with slst. in first ch – (7 times –10ch loop)
Rnd 2 : *sc, hdc, 8 dc, ch 2, 8 dc, hdc, sc* in each 10ch-loop, around, join with slst. in first sc. Fasten off. – (7 petals)
Put a nice button to the middle.

If you come up with any problems or difficulties, write to me, and I’ll be more than happy to help.

Have a nice week
